LATECOMERS

We are all latecomers, standing on the bones of everything before us.

From a conversation with Brandon,

a passage from Robert Harrison’s book, Dominion of the Dead.

“…Arrowheads everywhere in the soil. We are all latecomers. To be human means to come after those who came before. Just as we are always preceded by our forebears, so too the ground in which we lay them to rest has always already received the bones of others—‘others’ in the most radical sense of the term, including that of other species, many of whom have died on our behalf.”

—Robert Harrison, Dominion of the Dead

Wake and See

Being on the road before the sun rises hasn’t let me down.

Do wake in the dark.

Do see the candied dawn.

A few photos. Westbound in South Dakota.

Devour Heaven

We fly. We dream in darkness. We devour heaven in bites too small to be measured. // Rebecca Solnit

House Of Weather

Obviously, Weather.com wasn’t an option.

I named this thing Weather at the end of summer in 2011, and through the past 8 years, I’ve tried on many domain names: Intheweather.net, weatherbrand.com, weather.house, weathermaker.com, weathermade.com, weatherof.earth and numerous other variants of .nets, .coms, .us, .earths, .worlds, and even different name altogether — WIIND.I landed on Houseofweather.com.

After resisting it for a few years due to being ubiquitous naming conventions in the world of luxury brands, and the adjacent/kindred art, design , and skate/BMX spaces. But, then I thought, who really cares. In notes to myself over the years trying to make sense of what I felt was emerging with Weather I would often describe it as a house with no walls.

There are doors here, but there are no walls, there are windows, no borders, no laws…

FBM at the Lucero Family Picnic

CALL COPS

Last weekend I rented a car and headed down to Memphis to meet up with Jackson and the rest of the inhabitants of FBM’s black school bus. They were wrapping up a trip across the south culminating in Lucero’s Family Picnic at Minglewood.

I shot a roll of film on the Olympus and another with my Holga. Here’s what turned out.

Sharpie tats and Seamus airing a DIY vert wall with Betty Boop eyeing him up are my favorites.

Thanks to Crandall for having me and Brian Venable for letting us stay at his house.
